We’re just ordinary people…with an EXTRA-ordinary God working through us.
I absolutely LOVE ice cream, no really, I LOVE ICE CREAM! I mean, I look forward to my time with my ice cream, there’s just something special that happens when we meet, it’s almost divine, I’m convinced ice cream is the good and perfect will of the Lord!
I’m sure that you have small things in your life that you love and enjoy as well; they may not be incredibly sophisticated, nor extravagant, in fact they might be rather ordinary but, you love them anyway because of that special thing that happens when you get to enjoy them. Trust me, I’m right there with you!
We all love getting a little extra…
I wonder, if you’ve ever had an “extra” moment when you’re planning to enjoy one of your simple joys? You know, that moment when you get more than you expected, for example, you paid for a “Like It” portion at Coldstone, but the new guy prepared a “Gotta Have It” portion, and just gave you the extra? Don’t you love when you get extra? Extra ice cream, extra credit, extra affirmation, we all love getting a little extra.
Extra essentially means to receive beyond what is usual, expected, or necessary. I am convinced that God enjoys taking simple, quite ordinary elements and making them EXTRA-ordinary. As a matter of fact, it is Biblical truth that He is truly the God of Above and Beyond.
Ephesians 3:20 MSG
“God can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!”
The basic principle to accessing God’s extra, is actually found in the elements at work in our “ordinary”. See, the “Above & Beyond” scripture in Ephesians doesn’t end with God hoarding all of the “extra”, it actually reveals that it trickles down to us and is in fact at work in, and through us:
Ephesians 3:20 MSG
“He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.”
The good news is that the Spirit of God is at work in us, He reveals His ability to do extra, in us and through us.

I encourage you to live your life this week, as Romans 12:1-2 in the Message version instructs us,
“Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering…God brings the best out of you.”
Be confident, and give it your best! Although our best may seem ordinary, God makes our best, better.
Let’s be Extraordinary!
