What goes up, must come down.

By August 13, 2014 Jared Nieman

In my experience, one of the surest ways to access the extraordinary life that God offers every believer is through serving.  I’m telling you, when you and I allow the Holy Spirit to develop a servant’s heart in us, it opens the door for God to do extraordinary things in our lives!

Choosing to live our everday lives with a servant’s heart opens the door to the expansive realm of our EXTRAordinary God. It blows my mind how the realm of God so often works exactly opposite to the realm of the world.

You see, in Christ, the way up is down. Scripture teaches us that the way to receive is to give, the way to be exalted by God begins with humbling ourselves, James says it best:
“God goes against the willing proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.” – James 4:6 MSG

Understand, in God’s Kingdom, the way up is in fact down. Pride and humility are both produced by the position and condition of our hearts. The choice to have a prideful heart or to walk humbly is ours.

I believe with all my heart, that when you and I choose to live with a servant’s heart, it sets up our lives to be perfectly connected to the greatness, the promises, the impossibilities made possible, the blessings and the grace of God to flourish in our lives.

It is through our servant’s heart that we access the EXTRA God wants to add to our ordinary.  A servant’s heart is a heart that lives with an above & beyond attitude.

Practically speaking, what does that attitude look like you ask?

Here are some things to look for:

  • A servant’s heart advances other’s interests even at the sacrifice of their own
  • A servant’s heart promotes the welfare & prosperity of Jesus’ church.
  • A servant’s heart is used by God to carry out His administration on earth. So, a servant’s heart demonstrates integrity and faithfulness.

In other words, a servant’s heart is a living example of Christianity, and the Word promises us that a life surrendered to living for Christ and for others will always be an EXTRA-ordinary life.

I’m praying that the Lord generously grace your life this week as you seek to serve Him with all of your heart.
